They do look pretty good on my feet. They are also now the Mark Cardwell Memorial Socks.
Mark was a member of our church who died last Monday week from motor neurone disease, and I was knitting these on that day, though I didn't find out he'd died until the day after. They are a wonderful way to remember him, as he would have very much appreciated them, being a very vibrant and lively personality. Even a week or two before his death, he was bright-eyed and cheerful, though he was in a wheelchair and using an oxygen mask most of the time.

The War Memorial Cottage in Gartcosh just to the east of Glasgow. Designed by Gavin Lennox, it was built as a memorial nurses home, and features two plaques listing the names of local residents who died in World War I (on the left hand gate pillar) and World War II (on the right hand one).
