J'ai un #iMac pas tout jeune sur lequel j'ai mis un XUbuntu pour lui donner une seconde vie.

Est-ce que ça peut intéresser quelqu'un.e ? Une asso, quelqu'un, je ne sais ?

Ma tendre moitié et moi-même ne nous en servirons plus donc c'est soit cadeau via ici soit #Emaus dans les semaines à venir.

Spitting and cussing. Can't share my latest #publication #pembrokepapers because it's a *.pdf on my not iconic, wate of space #iMac #apple #MacIsTosh . The more time I spend on it the more convinced it's a huge con. The #capitalist theory of inbuilt #obsolescence & pandering to some #yankee idea of #style . It has about as much style as a #playboy #centrefold. And #starmer 's bed hopping with them. Give me strength. Next issue to be set and printed by hand thanks to Mr Caxton. Grr...End rant.

Sorry not be keeping up with the herd 🐘 so much today. Confessions of a newbie. I suggested some while back that we in #Pembroke_Town (#Wales) needed was a local rag, remembering the days of the old 'free press'. Seems like I've lumbered myself with the job. Having been 'gifted' an #iMac I'm discovering that 'transferrable skills' like 'lay ups' and 'galleys' no longer apply & my brain hurts. 'Andy #Android it is not! I'll catch up in due course just now looking for tea and sympathy.

I had to reinstall #Mac #OS9 as I was suddenly running into some weird boot issues, but then again it was a nice opportunity to get a clean OS install going on my #G4 #iMac.
I tried the OS9 9.2.1 CD that came with the original #OSX, but that did not work. I guess it is missing some iMac-specific bits. Regardless, my burned 9.2.2 "universal" installer CD worked beautifully.
And of course, I had to install #SereneScreen #Marine #Aquarium.

#linux wird gerade bei mir an allen Ecken und Enden ein Thema. Nicht, weil ich nicht mit meinen Apple-Geräten zufrieden wäre - ganz im Gegenteil.
Aber für meinen alten #iMac (Mitte 2011, i5 2,7GHz, 24 GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD6770M 512MB, 1TB), denn #OCLP ist schon auf HighSierra und extrem lahm.

Ich nutze vor allem
- #obsidian
- Browser (#librewolf )
- Mail-Client über imap
- #icloud (liefe über Snap)
- irgendein Office (ich gebe zu, dass ich mit #LibreOffice hadere)
- #elgato StreamDeck

A few months ago I cleaned several of my #keyboards, including the two I had got with my lovely #iMac G4. I basically only ever use one of them (an #M7803) as its functions keys like volume up/down work under classic #macos 9.
But I still wanted to clean up the other model too, a white #A1048. When I opened it up I was rather surprised though. I don't think (hope?) this was from the factory? Oof.
So last weekend I fixed this, of course.

The focus of the photo is on where the hard-wired USB cable connects to the logic board, which shows a big mess of solder blobs, wires sort of half sticking out, and the logic board itself shows signs of having been burned, too.
Continuing from the previous photo, this photo shows the underside of the logic board, zoomed in on where the USB wire is soldered in, showing that underneath the board there are large solder blobs too that nearly touch one another in parts where they really shouldn't.
Continuing from the previous photo, a photo of the top side of the logic board again, now after the USB wire has been de-soldered. The burn marks are now very apparent, especially with the right-most hole showing a lot of black discoloration.
Final photo showing the USB logic board cleaned as much as possible, with the USB wire soldered in anew. I had already put everything in the bottom enclosure of the keyboard when I realized I had not yet taken an "after" photo, so this one shows the board already in place and with some Kapton tape where the wires have been soldered in place.

The #iMac apparently had the magic smoke & sparks fly out, we shall see what parts can be salvaged

- a few #macpro - Two appear to be the 2012 vintage, the same as my orignal MacPro that I still have. Hopefully candidates for #OCLP
