In an unprecedented move, the Japan Fair Trade Commission on Tuesday issued a cease-and-desist order against Google for violating the country's anti-monopoly law by forcing manufacturers to preinstall the company’s apps on their #Android #smartphones.

> This is the first time that #Japan has issued such an order against any of the major U.S. technology companies referred to collectively as GAFAM — Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft. japantimes.co.jp/business/2025 #Google #Alphabet #monopoly

#Android phones will soon #reboot themselves after sitting unused for 3 days

A silent update rolling out to virtually all Android devices will make your phone more secure, and all you have to do is not touch it for a few days. The new feature implements auto-restart of a locked device, which will make your personal data harder to extract.

My kindgom for a FOSS android music player. 😭

I've tried a few at this point but am struggling to find one that can:

- Create playlists that I can then edit/move track positions around
- I can get it from an alternative storefront like F-droid or Obtainium
- Desired but not required: Edit metadata

That's all I really want it to do. I was using Auxio for a long time, but the UI update (changes to windowing I think) made it impossible to scroll playlists on my older S8.

I would like to have an Android app where one can define a set of buttons which then trigger a custom *thing* (like sending a specific text via SMS to a contact or calling a number).
Have been looking around & found a few 'panic button' apps, but those don't have the functionality I need/want.

Do you have an idea?
(best would be #FOSS)

Google rolling out auto-restart security feature to Android phones | One of the things I really love…

…about companies attempting to copy and outdo each other in terms of individual privacy protection, is that this bar-raising exercise is very much in the spirit of improving security for everybody, in spite of what various government might think is in their own narrow best interest:
