@mcc @jstevenyork The current hype with is a mixed bag. I’m happy to see users move away from X, and BlueSky is 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 a pretty good platform.

The key word is 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺. Just like Twitter of yore, BlueSky is a for-profit company. Enshittification is inevitable. Users are locked in to the platform and the the company is beholden to VCs / shareholders. (1/2)

Additionally, does not run on ActivityPub. I doubt it will ever work seamlessly with Mastodon instances.

We’ve already learned, repeatedly, that corporate owned social networks don’t work. ActivityPub (or a similar technology) that is not owned & controlled by a single for-profit entity - and where the data is decentralized - is the way to go.

The current challenge is that many potential users find the fediverse confusing & intimidating. (2/2)
