I'm out of control. I just ordered a half dozen rubber stamps from Apple Pay makes it too easy.

This year's Harvard freshman computer science intro, CS50, is shot in a theater, with props! As always, David Malan is on :fire:

US Politics

I'm surprised the hike to a $15 minimum wage being debated in the US Congress is so controversial.

When I was in high school in 1972 I worked at McDonald's for $3.25/hour. In 2021 dollars that's $21/hour.

$15 is the LEAST we should do.

There are at least 1200 covid-related German coinages: from Maskenflickenteppich (mask rag-rug, the patchwork of masking regulations) to Homeofficepauschale (home office flat-rate, a called-for €100/m home worker stipend), and so, so many more.

Last year, we spent 51 days at sea during the passage from Japan to Canada, it was the hardest thing we had ever done. We kept a physical logbook of daily happenings onboard. This is that logbook, revised, and with a ton of extra notes.

Jury's still out on range on the Mach-E @Kloewen.

I have an extended range model, so supposedly it will be 270mi/434 km on a full charge. From the factory it was closer to 200mi/320km.

I've reset the range estimates and it will have to get used to my driving habits to give me a real range estimate.

So far it's showing I use around 3.3kWh/mi highway, 2.3kWh city but it's very dependent on cabin warming and accessory use.

Uber is a money-hemmorhaging bezzle ("the magic interval when a confidence trickster knows he has the money he has appropriated but the victim does not yet understand that he has lost it"). It's $6.8b losses in 2020 are not an aberration.

Uber will never be profitable.

Like all scams, Uber depends on fresh suckers coming in and buying out the last round of suckers. To do this, the company has to keep running, even as it loses money.

Don't you love the Perseverance logo? So geeky and yet so cute.

Now let's get the power turned on in Texas.

Just mind boggling. Imaging received from Mars!

I swear that's a MacBook Pro I see on the NASA feed. I thought you couldn't launch rockets on a Mac. Must be the social media guy.

Who's watching the Perseverance landing? So exciting. God speed little rover!

Wow. Bloomberg confirms its much doubted Supermicro hack story and adds significant supporting details.

Ultimate told ya so.

This is interesting...

This analysis of the short movie shown just before Trump's speech at the Jan 6 Capitol rally is chilling.

Someone (Steven Miller?) is very adept at creating modern fascist propaganda. I even found myself sucked in by it.
