Uber is a money-hemmorhaging bezzle ("the magic interval when a confidence trickster knows he has the money he has appropriated but the victim does not yet understand that he has lost it"). It's $6.8b losses in 2020 are not an aberration.

Uber will never be profitable.

Like all scams, Uber depends on fresh suckers coming in and buying out the last round of suckers. To do this, the company has to keep running, even as it loses money.

Don't you love the Perseverance logo? So geeky and yet so cute.

Now let's get the power turned on in Texas.

Just mind boggling. Imaging received from Mars!

I swear that's a MacBook Pro I see on the NASA feed. I thought you couldn't launch rockets on a Mac. Must be the social media guy.

Who's watching the Perseverance landing? So exciting. God speed little rover!

Wow. Bloomberg confirms its much doubted Supermicro hack story and adds significant supporting details.

This analysis of the short movie shown just before Trump's speech at the Jan 6 Capitol rally is chilling.

Someone (Steven Miller?) is very adept at creating modern fascist propaganda. I even found myself sucked in by it.

Speaking of which, Sunday our finance expert, TechCrunch's Alex Wilhelm will join Philip-Elmer Dewitt and Christina Warren on TWiT. :twit:

Topic #1: /r/WallStreetBets vs the world. What a fascinating story!

So we're hunkered down in Petaluma, waiting for an epic storm (they call it an atmospheric river). The good news, the UPS guy braved the storm to deliver my copy of David Pogue's new book. Good timing...

I had no idea that PixelFed was on the Fediverse.

I'm @leolaporte, and now that I know I'll start putting stuff there again!

Mastodon uses the same technical standards as many other alternative social networks, so people on one network can follow people on others. This "network of networks" is called the Fediverse :fediverse:

✅ You can follow people from other parts of the Fediverse just like you would follow any Mastodon account!

Try it out for yourself:

@jett1oeil is an account on Instagram alternative PixelFed

@chriswere is an account on YouTube alternative PeerTube

@tokyotony Hugo @mastohost has explained it to me, and I completely misunderstood what the Federated Timeline was.

In short, only accounts that someone (anyone) follows on twit.social will show up in the Federated Timeline. Follow someone and their toots will show up for all on the twit.social Federated Timeline.

It is NOT a complete set of ALL toots from ALL the instances in the Fediverse. Not even close.
